cross 20142014 marks a very special year.  St. Mary of Victories and the St. Louis community of Communion and Liberation have been hosting the Good Friday Way of the Cross for ten years now. With this in mind, we'd like to ask those attending to keep in their heart during lent the prayer petitions attached to the Way of the Cross: we pray especially for all those on the streets struggling with poverty, for those suffeirng from the devastation caused by war and for attacks on the family and unborn.

We will begin the Way of the Cross at 12:30 p.m. with mid-day prayer and readings in St. Mary's church followed by a procession from St. Mary's courtyard to the southwest entrance of the Gateway Arch Park - Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Park, to the Old Cathedral, then we will process silently to Kiener plaza and back to St. Mary's via Broadway.  The 14th station will be prayer outside the St. Marys.  St. Mary of Victories will have a 3:00 passion service.

St. Mary of Victories is located on the east side of the I-55 overpass.  It has a gated parking lot for parking and some on-street parking is available.  The Church can be difficult to locate.  Detailed directions can be found by clicking "Directions & Google Map" in the left side menu and a map of the procession route.  We have changed the route a bit with a detour to Kiener Plaza then back to St. Mary's via Broadway.

Communion and Liberation

Communion and Liberation (CL) is a Catholic lay movement.  CL synthesizes the conviction that the Christian event, lived in communion, is the foundation of the authentic liberation of man. There is no type of membership card, but only the free participation of persons. The basic instrument for the formation of adherents is weekly catechesis, called “School of Community.”  There is a CL community in St. Louis that meets bi-monthly for prayer and friendship.

Communion and Liberation was founded by Msgr. Luigi Giussani in Milan Italy while teaching high school students.  The students of Msgr. Giussani were greatly motivated by his witness to Christ's presence in their lives that they brought his message with them to college and beyond.  CL has recognition from Rome as a official Ecclesial lay movement and is present in nations throughout the world.  For info on CL in the USA go to their website: www.clonline.us.
