Help save Saint Mary of Victories Catholic Church!

Saint Mary of Victories Catholic Church
, just south of the Gateway Arch, is a splendid and unique part of the heritage of old Saint Louis. Founded in 1843 for German immigrants, it is the second oldest church in the City of St. Louis.  It became the city's Hungarian Catholic Church and Cultural Center in 1957. Its acclaimed pre-Civil War architecture, beautiful old paintings, ornate statuary and noted historical personalities have earned it a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. It is one of the few consecrated churches in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, and has a magnificent high altar and ornate side altars with hundreds of sacred relics.  We have a rich history that is inextricably linked with the early history of St. Louis, including being where the Sisters of St. Mary (SSM Health System) got their start and their name, and where Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, C.Ss.R. preached a parish mission 151 years ago.

Our liturgies are reverent, faithful and welcoming.  We accordingly feature many traditional options in our sacred liturgies, including a unique Latin Ordinary Form Mass offered Ad Orientem (facing the high altar), with Gregorian Chant.  We also continue to have an English Mass with many special Hungarian touches. We periodically have Missa Cantata Extraordinary Form (Traditional Latin) Masses featuring our excellent Gregorian Chant Schola.

We need your help!

Over the years, as the neighborhood has changed, fewer and fewer of our original German and Hungarian parishioners regularly attend Mass.  Only 60 people regularly attend our church now.  This is partly because we are nearly completely hidden in our location south of the Poplar Street Bridge.  In any case, our finances each month continue to fall short, sometimes by as much as $3,000.  Our savings are limited and will not last forever, should the situation remain unchanged!

So please we ask you to be generous with your treasure, your time and your talent to keep old St. Mary of Victories around for another generation of Catholics in St. Louis.  Be a part of saving this historic and religious treasure.  The donate button below gives several options for helping us.  All donations are 501 c(3) tax deductable.
